From real-world math to multicultural literature, cooking science to summer camps , The Joie Lab has a program that meets your child exactly where they are.
Culture-Conscious Mathematics
A project-based, gamified math course for grades 8–10 grounded in CCSS standards. Students take on real roles , NASA analyst, event coordinator, streaming engineer , to explore algebra, geometry, functions, and data literacy through culturally relevant problem sets.
Multicultural Literature Course
A full-semester course weaving four culturally rich novels with STEAM projects, cooking labs, grammar skills, and Jeopardy review games. Students explore Korean folklore, Islamic mythology, Hindu mythology, and Victorian England , all through hands-on, joyful learning.
Hands-On Cultural Cooking
Interactive cooking labs that connect food to culture, chemistry, and history. From Beef Bulgogi and Korean Corn Dogs to Hummus & Pita, each lab includes the cultural context, cooking science, step-by-step recipes, and prep guides for instructors.
Creative Learning Intensives
Immersive week-long camps for curious kids who love to make, build, cook, and discover. 10 camps across 8 weeks, each rooted in a specific theme and culminating in a student project or showcase.
1-on-1 Expert Instruction • $50/hr
One-on-one tutoring in high school math, science, and test and college prep, led by a highly qualified instructor. Sessions are personalized, rigorous, and grounded in the same culturally responsive approach as all Joie Lab courses.

Students act as NASA data analysts classifying space signals, exploring number systems, irrational numbers, and scientific notation.
Unit 3
Students become event coordinators planning a $500 community event, mastering linear equations, proportional reasoning, and financial literacy.

Islamic mythology and adventure. Features a STEAM creature design challenge, hummus & pita cooking lab, and an adverb grammar deep-dive.

STEAM Lab
Students design a structurally sound tiger habitat applying engineering design principles, area and perimeter, and research on tiger conservation.

Inspired by Islamic mythology, students design and sketch their own mythical creature, applying symmetry, proportion, and engineering constraints.

Engineer your way to the Red Planet. Students tackle real space mission challenges, exploring physics, systems thinking, and the science of survival on Mars.
Real chemistry through Harry Potter-inspired experiments. Color-changing potions, glowing reactions, invisible ink, and a Potion Mastery Challenge on Day 5.
Stop playing games. Start building them. Students create real playable games using JavaScript, HTML, and Python. No prior coding experience needed.
Students learn how AI models are trained, work with real health datasets, and debate AI ethics in medicine and society. Train an AI model. Debate the future.

Kelsi Taylor holds a Master of Science in Microbiology, is a PhD student in Biomedical Data Science, and brings 8+ years of scientific communications experience to every lesson. She designs curriculum that weaves together mathematics, science, literature, cultural exploration, and hands-on making into cohesive, joyful learning experiences.

Both! Our Outschool courses include both live weekly classes with a highly qualified instructor and self-paced flex courses your child can work through on their own schedule. Summer camps are all live, 9 to 11 AM CST daily.
Live classes are hosted on Outschool, which uses Zoom for video sessions. Curriculum purchased on Teachers Pay Teachers is delivered as downloadable PDFs and digital files. Summer camps are held on our camp platform at summer.thejoielab.com.
We serve students K through 12. The Culture and Literature course is designed for ages 11 to 14. MathQuest targets grades 8 through 10. Summer camps range from ages 5 to 18 depending on the camp. Private tutoring is available for high school students.
Outschool records all live sessions and makes them available to enrolled students. We also provide all lesson materials digitally, so your child can follow along at their own pace if they miss a class.
Courses include optional practice activities and reflection questions, but we do not assign mandatory homework. The in-session projects and activities are the primary learning experience. Private tutoring sessions may include between-session practice at your request.
